Rockbound is an isolated island, inhabited by two feuding families and governed by a king, Uriah Jung. When David Jung arrives at Rockbound to claim a small portion of the island he inherited, he is faced with the harsh and greed-driven society of the place. David encounters many obstacles, including his feelings for the island's school teacher, and his own reactions to the strange place.

With a setting inspired by an island off the coast of Nova Scotia, Frank Parker Day's Rockbound is a story about family struggle and greed. First published in 1928, Rockbound was subsequently out-of-print for many years until the story saw a surge of popularity when it was nominated and won the 2005 Canada Reads competition against Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood.
