This short novel was written by one of the famous novelists and tanka poets in the Meiji era, Ichiyo Higuchi. The protagonist, Oseki, decides to run away from home since her husband has a bad attitude to her due to a different social status. After runaway, she rides in a rickshaw and then realizes that a puller is a childhood friend she used to love, Rokunosuke Takasaka.
