Because the novel is introduced in Japanese textbooks, the story is well known to everybody. A fox called Gon likes mischief. One day, Gon let fishes and eels go that Hyouju captures. Later, Gon knows those fishes and eels are for Hyouju's mother who has been sick in bed. Because Gon feels sorry for what he did, Gon starts to give foods to Hyouju secretly, from the day onwards, such as chestnuts and matsutake mushrooms.
