This is one of the best known works by Osamu Dazai. The story is based on his own experience. "I", the main character, who got tired of his life in a city, comes up decides to go to Mt. Fuji to meet Ibuse Masuji. At first he gets irritated with the site of Mt. Fuji, which is too common to him. But he gradually opens up his mind to the true beauty of the Mt Fuji. The story vividly describes how trivial daily lives of human beings are if they are compared with magnificent Mt. Fuji.
