Getting on with Type 1 Diabetes is part of the Books Beyond Words series of picture books that help people with learning and communication difficulties to explore and understand their own experiences. Florence is always thirsty and tired. Her GP diagnoses type 1 diabetes and refers her to hospital. She learns that having diabetes doesn't need to spoil her life as long as she takes her prescribed insulin, eats healthy foods and keeps active. As the story progresses, we see her enjoying life again with her friends. Guidelines are provided (as text at the back) for carers and supporters, health and other professionals providing support to people with learning disabilities.
