A love story between Adrian, a man who desires to live alone and Etta, a young woman desperate to be loved. It also involves Navajo spirits who supposedly are protecting Adrian's land but are falling down on the job, a beautiful crusading atheist, death and disappearance, and the dysfunctional family who adopted Etta as a baby and proceeded to ruin her life. As with the author, it is humorous and thought-provoking and is not to be taken seriously.
