Author Jeremy Brown was serving as British Air Attaché to Brazil when the Falklands War broke out in 1982. The book includes many enlightening interviews with eminent politicians, high-ranking members of the armed forces and diplomatic services (British and South American,) Falkland Islanders and journalists.
Their stories bring to life the events of a brief but intense war, how these affected the rest of South America, and the actions of 'the other players' behind the scenes.
Thirty years on, the Falkland Islands remain a highly controversial topic. A South American War is a valuable guide to understanding the history and political backdrop of the region, and the realities of fighting a war over 'a little bit of Britain far away'.
Jeremy Brown's RAF career spanned 25 years including air defence pilot, flying instructor and Air Attaché at the British Embassy in Brasilia. He retired as a Wing Commander to pursue a career in industry, and has also undertaken a variety of consultancy appointments in the defence/aerospace sector. Jeremy gives talks on South America and the Falklands War and lives in Kingsbridge, Devon.
