The foundation for this book stems from the authors' experience of nearly ten years of facilitating projects involving young people to map out a pathway for positive engagement and change. The book focuses on the potential benefits to be gained from engaging young people in community projects. The authors demonstrate the value of creative engagement and the benefit for young people and their communities by enabling different agencies to work together in true partnership. The book advocates a joined-up strategy in which the young people in, for example, their school or youth centre, are provided with the required background knowledge and support to bring about positive change in their communities. The book demonstrates how this support can be provided through the guidance from agencies such as the police, schools and councils. As a result the young people come to realise the benefit of being able to work in partnership with other members of the community and professionals whether from school, youth centre, the police service or local authority.
