唐贞观二年(628年)六月十五日，太宗李世民的第九个儿子降生于东宫的丽正殿，取名治，字为善，小字雉奴。至于李治为什么会生于东宫，则是因为李渊退位以后，一直到贞观三年(629年)才迁出紫极大内。这期间，李世民仍居东宫听政。
