Greg Monarch is an attorney in a small town on the central California coast whose practice consists mainly of contracts, wills, and the like. But when his down-and-out former law partner, Ira Sullivan, is accused of murder, Greg must confront the demons of his own past and try to save his friend from an almost certain conviction. Haunted by a case he lost years before, and facing a ruthless DA and a perfect witness, Greg tries to discover what really happened on the night of the murder. The stakes and the tension quickly escalate as Greg begins to uncover a plot much larger than anything he or Ira could have imagined. Ultimately, Gre's own sense of ethics and the law are challenged when he uses the perfect witness for Ira's defense.
