John Grant, who has a very unusual way of looking at his problems, is out of a job for the first time in his life. He has unwittingly descended into a life of crime and is beset by apprehension, anxiety and fear as he seeks to rescue his friend Andy, and to escape with his life from the faceless criminals who are pursuing him.

It doesn't help that during this trying time he is strongly attracted to two very different women—Linda, a Minister's daughter, and Karen, a casino worker. To make matters worse, just when his prospects with the right woman take a turn for the better, she turns him down.

John is no hard-nosed criminal. In spite of everything his basic outlook on life hasn't changed. But the stakes are too high!

He wonders if he has it in him to do what criminals are inclined to do in a situation like this.
