The Totters of Totown live bright lives in the shadow of Anansi's Peak. Well, all except the Scrooge, who lives on the mountain, throwing snowballs and chasing away all who try to bring Giftmas cheer their way.

Merithia knows that, but when her only true friend and their entire family may have to work off gifting debt they can't afford to pay, she decides to venture up the mountain for advice from the Scrooge, who has watched them from afar for decades.

Because while it all may seem to be Giftmas lights and shiny wrapping paper, either Merithia has been committing blasphemy by going against city's gift giving ways, or there is something terribly wrong in Totown.

Inspired by A Christmas Carol and How the Grinch Stole Christmas, The Reason for The Season is a winter holiday romantic fantasy novella that takes a hard look at why we give gifts and what makes a gift great. There is a romance subplot, but this story is no-spice.
