Footloose Scot is a historical record over 50 years of the travel experiences of Scots-born Jim Glendinning. It is part travel adventure memoir and part travel trade recollections. Glendinning's travel adventures include hitchhiking around post -war Europe in the 1950s, driving with his wife to India, joining a truck-load of adventuers driving through Africa, hiking 600 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail as well as through Panama's Darien Gap. In all, he visited 136 countries and he isn't finished yet. Glendinning comments on the changes in travel and tourism, specifically the huge increase in numbers. He makes a distinction between tourists and travelers, and considers himself one of the latter. He is also a keen proponent of outdoors adventures, whether hiking up the Pacific Crest Trail through Oregon, or rafting down the Zambezi River in Africa.
