If you've wondered why marriage began and the purpose it serves, then you'll enjoy this book. Vincent Nwankpa, the co-founder of Eternal Word Communication Ministries, examines monogamy and polygamy and considers which practice is ideal. Both monogamy and polygamy started in the Old Testament and carried over to the New Testament (Genesis 2:24; 1 Corinthians 7:1-40). The author argues that God's intent for marriage was for one man to remain true to one woman. But humanity rebelled against God's original plan, resulting in polygamy, which the author contends is a form of flagrant disobedience to God. The Lord allowed the practice to continue, which is why it is not condemned in the Bible. The author answers questions such as: Under what conditions should monogamy and/or polygamy be endorsed or condemned?
What did God mean when he instructed Adam and Eve to "be fruitful and multiply" and fill the earth and subdue it (Genesis 1:28)?
Why is marriage sacred and holy? Other topics include the continuing conflict between monogamy and polygamy, how different cultures perceive a union between a man and woman, how early missionaries to Africa and other parts of the world preached God's word, and how Jesus and the apostles confronted controversies surrounding marriage.
