As Guild Secretary, Master Full Wright David Enright's hands are full. The Guild Master expects him to help identify students for Rebecca's school, handle the disgruntled traditionalists, and marry Rebecca as soon as possible. But between Rebecca's flame-tamer's temper and the Guild's hidebound elders, David can't make headway on anything, even what he most wants for himself, pursuing Rebecca.

With the Guild divided about the legitimacy of female Wrights, the prospect of a school to train them turns the disgruntled Wrights desperate. The disenfranchised faction is ready to do anything to stop the school, to stop Rebecca, to stop anything that looks like change.
