THIRTY SEVEN YEARS OF LIVING HELL
This short book documents my journey of emotional and psychological abuse from my now ex-wife. I am a strong person, verbally articulate, reasonably intelligent, yet I was no match for the raging narcissism manifested by the love of my life.
I persisted in my marriage for two reasons; Firstly I believed my love for her would eventually rescue our relationship and secondly I had promised in our wedding vows that "through sickness and health, richer or poorer, until death do we part."
I took that vow very seriously and reasoned that mental sickness was no different to any other sickness so felt trapped by my wedding vows. It wasn't until I suffered my own mental collapse, an episode of "Transient Global Amnesia", ultimately triggered by a most shocking accusation, that I realised my first responsibility was to look after myself. I will be ever grateful for the growing awareness and understanding of narcissism by the health care community that helped me to realize that a narcissist can never own or admit to their illness, therefore can never change. I am personally convinced narcissism may well be the trigger for much family violence and many family murder suicides.
