Cal Merrick is good with his hands. He can fix a sagging porch or restore a hardwood floor, but he can't fix being the prime suspect in a murder investigation. After moving to the small town of Briarhaven for a quiet life, he finds himself at the center of a crime that has the whole town talking.

His new home, a sprawling Victorian with a mind of its own, isn't helping. With doors that vanish and visions of the past appearing in the living room, Cal is already on unsteady ground. Add in a skeptical sheriff watching his every move, and his only allies are the house's permanent residents: a crew of chatty ghosts with their own secrets.

Forced to become the detective the town needs, Cal must piece together a puzzle of old secrets and new lies, following a trail of clues that stretches back generations. The real killer is still out there, and they know he's getting close.
