In an apartment in Washington, DC, four stuffed animals-Lambkins the wise lamb, Pookins the funny and brave cockapoodle, Womby the determined wombat, and Kiwi the curious kiwi bird-call themselves the Stuffie Squad. They read, explore, and look after their people, Sam and Judy. On trips to the family farm they find comfort by the fire, befriend a gentle black bear, and-deep in the woods-meet a mysterious woodland elf who offers a riddle:

The mystery arrives at a busy mall. While Sam and Judy shop, the friends clap for jugglers and musicians-until they notice something is terribly wrong. Kiwi has vanished.
