The story of Shir, a 28-year-old intelligence officer in an elite unit of the Israeli army.
Shir was assigned to investigate the failures between soldiers in the field and senior commanding officers leading to October 7th, 2023. The reports arriving from the field raised serious concerns about Hamas militants preparing for invasion, information which was being dismissed and ignored by senior commanders.
On Saturday morning, October 7th, 2023
Shir was one of the very few armed officers in the Reim military base bordering Gaza and combated Hamas militants with her fellow officers, where she ended up severely wounded, abducted and hidden in the Gaza tunnels
For over a year as a hostage, Shir describes in detail the fine line between hope and despair, enduring physical and mental abuse, hunger, uncertainty, humiliation and unlivable conditions among Hamas terrorists.
Shir's inner strength and resourcefulness foretell a remarkable tale of how human strength deals with the worst circumstances life has to offer. Her relationships with other hostages in captivity and with her captors are a journey of hope in the Valley of Shadow, seeking a return to the light.
