The human relationship with nature runs deeper than mere aesthetic appreciation or philosophical inclination. It is woven into the very fabric of our evolutionary development, forming what biologist E.O. Wilson termed "biophilia" – an innate affinity for living systems. For over 99 percent of human evolutionary history, our ancestors lived in direct contact with the natural world. These are not learned responses but appear to be hardwired into our biology, suggesting that our need for nature connection is as fundamental as our need for social interaction or adequate nutrition.
