The rain fell like tears on the cobblestones of Prague's old quarter, each drop a whispered reminder of the blood that had been spilled on these very streets. Elara Novák pressed her face against the cold window of the cramped apartment, watching the shadows dance between the streetlights below. Twenty-three years of life, and she had spent the last five consumed by a single, burning purpose: to destroy the man who had murdered her family.

Viktor Černý. The name tasted like poison on her tongue, a bitter cocktail of rage and determination that had sustained her through years of careful planning. The arms dealer who had sold weapons to the rebels that stormed her village, who had profited from the chaos that left her parents and younger brother dead in the ashes of their home. He lived now in luxury, his hands clean of the blood he had spilled by proxy, his conscience apparently as pristine as the marble floors of his Prague mansion.

But Elara remembered everything. The screams. The fire. The way her mother's hand had gone cold in hers as the smoke filled their burning home. She had been eighteen then, hidden in the cellar by her father's quick thinking, forced to listen as her world crumbled above her head. When she had finally emerged, coughing and half-blind from the smoke, she found only death and devastation.

The authorities had been useless, of course. The war had created too many orphans, too many grievances, too many crimes that would never see justice. But Elara had not been content to let the matter rest. She had spent five years learning everything she could about Viktor Černý—his business, his habits, his weaknesses. She had taught herself to shoot, to fight, to lie with the ease of a practiced politician. And now, finally, she was ready.
