By the year 2050, 1 in 6 people in the world will be over the age of 65. This growth in the elderly population is estimated to happen fastest in the least developed countries, which will be home to more than two-thirds of the world's older population. This will bring huge challenges for health care services. While the importance of mental health has been gaining wider acknowledgement across the globe, the provision and availability of mental health services for elderly may not be at par. Mental health of elderly need to be understood in different perspective, who might be at higher risk of misperception or biased impressions of their mental health needs, eventually leading light on mental health issues of elderly, including cognition, psychiatric and medical illness, loneliness and suicide. Issues related to ageing as well as environment are also discussed. The book also highlights on the approaches and challenges of psychological intervention for the elderly.
