As a seasoned news reporter, Annie Caywood, daughter of Emily Sybrant, granddaughter of Lily Sybrant, and great-granddaughter of Madeleine Houllette, arrives in Prague, Czechoslovakia in 1968, confident that she can cover the first official act of Alexander Dubcek's Communist Regime the reopening of a 20-year-old murder/suicide case. Instead, Annie Caywood finds secret police interfering with her investigation as she becomes emotionally tied to the unfolding story of Jan Masaryk's life and attracted to the stranger following her. As the threat to Czechoslovakia by the Soviets increases and her contacts begin to disappear, Annie Caywood realizes too late that she is both over her head and close to solving the most important mystery of the Prague Spring.
