This book is about people — about us. Because, deep down, everyone has missed the mark and aimed in the wrong direction at some point. We've all shot at a target that should've been easy to hit. To be happy, to grow, to learn, to give, to receive, to feel life without chains — that should be our goal. When we become slaves to fear, guilt, the addiction to suffering, or pride — that's our real sin. No one hits the target all the time, but we can keep trying — always, again, once more, and then again — until we finally hit the mark and stop sinning against this beautiful thing called life, and the right we have to live it well, without guilt for finally managing to be happy.

Taking care of yourself is not a sin. Having self-respect, dressing well, feeling attractive — that's not a sin. Owning a comfortable home, enjoying good health, driving a modern car, traveling freely — these aren't sins either; they can be virtues, not vain vanity — as long as they make you feel more alive and less enslaved.

"She makes coverings for herself; her clothing is fine linen and purple."
(Proverbs 31:22)
