The morning sun cast golden rays through the stained glass windows of St. Catherine's Cathedral, painting rainbow patterns across the marble floor. Seraphina Winters knelt in the front pew, her whispered prayers rising like incense in the sacred space. As the head of the cathedral's restoration committee, she had spent countless hours within these hallowed walls, but today felt different. There was an electric charge in the air, a sense that something momentous was about to unfold.

She had always been drawn to the divine, even as a child. While other girls her age were playing with dolls or dreaming of celebrity crushes, Seraphina found herself captivated by stories of angels and miracles. Her grandmother had often told her that she possessed a special gift, an ability to sense the presence of celestial beings. As she grew older, Seraphina dismissed these claims as the fanciful tales of an aging woman, but deep in her heart, she had never stopped believing.

At twenty-six, Seraphina had dedicated her life to her faith and her work preserving sacred art and architecture. Her colleagues often teased her about her devotion, suggesting she should find herself a nice man and settle down. But Seraphina had never felt that pull toward earthly romance. She had always felt as though she was waiting for something, or someone, beyond the ordinary realm of human experience.

As she rose from her prayers, a sudden gust of wind swept through the cathedral, despite all the windows being closed. The candles flickered but did not extinguish, and the very air seemed to shimmer with an otherworldly light. Seraphina's breath caught in her throat as she turned toward the altar, where a figure materialized as if stepping through a veil between worlds.
