There have been philosophers and poets throughout the ages who have asserted that between the soul and the body, war is constantly being waged. It often seems that the more civilized we become, the more the soul is relegated to an inferior status.
Oguchi H. Nkwocha has turned his eye inward in an effort to see beyond the illusions that separate us from our true essence. The result is a heightened spiritual awareness, which he shares with us in this collection of poetry, Stirrings.
In the poem "Stirrings," the author conveys to us some of the manifestations of our self-subterfuge:
How long can we sleep
Hiding in time and space to avoid eternity
Courting death to escape immorality
Fabricating vivid illusions to eschew reality
Dividing and separating to spurn unity
Inventing guilt and conflict to spite serenity
Invoking sin and punishment to undo love?
In this rare blend of philosophy and poetry, Stirrings, Oguchi H. Nkwocha, M.D., offers us his unique view that cannot help but give one pause.
