Childhood obesity has been an issue in the United States for many years. The prevalence of childhood obesity has increased threefold since the 1970s. As of 2023, 1 in 5 children in the US are considered obese, with this statistic increasing annually. Childhood obesity is worsened by children's lifestyles, where technology use dominates their attention, leading to poor nutritional choices and a lack of physical activity. The absence of physical education in schools affects children's health education and is partly to blame for childhood obesity. Genetics also influence childhood obesity based on the traits of a child's distinct genetic composition. Certain adverse effects of childhood obesity include inadequate physical health, mental health issues, and social exclusion. Numerous children presently experiencing obesity will persist in facing these consequences well into their adulthood. Interventions that focus on involving parents heavily in their children's diet and exercise are currently the most effective approach to address childhood obesity.
