Surrogacy is a concept which is still considered taboo in the Indian society. India was emerging as a global leader of Surrogacy until the ban imposed by the government in 2015 which drew in a lot of criticism.

Though legislature and judiciary in this country alike have shown a progressive view, religious and traditional institutions have always been against the concept.
