PECULIAR LIVES. SYNOPSIS: "From the pen of Mr Erik Clevedon, Peculiar Lives is another 'scientific romance' along the lines of The Coming Times and The Star Beasts. Exotic colour is added by the character of an American Negro detective, HonorĂ© Lechasseur, and his delightful English companion Miss Blandish." Once a celebrated author of 'scientific romances', Erik Clevedon is an old man now. But his fiction conceals a dangerous truth, as HonorĂ© Lechasseur and Emily Blandish discover after a chance encounter with a strangely gifted young pickpocket. Born between the Wars, the superhuman children known as 'the Peculiar' are reaching adulthood – and they believe that humanity is making a poor job of looking after the world they plan to inherit... Part mystery, part detective story, part dark fantasy, part science fiction... original adventures in time and space. ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Philip Purser-Hallard has written science fiction, criticism, comedy sketches and an inordinate number of emails. His first novel, Of the City of the Saved..., was published in 2004. His other published works include short fiction in The Book of the War, A Life Worth Living and Wildthyme on Top. A long-term reader, fan and critic of science fiction, he gained his doctorate from Oxford University by writing on The Relationship between Creator and Creature in Science Fiction. This thesis, which examined the work of Olaf Stapledon, George Bernard Shaw and HG Wells among others, earned him the right to put the very appropriate initials 'MA D Phil' after his name. He has been employed as a tutor, secretary, church caretaker and researcher for the revised edition of the Oxford English Dictionary. You can find out more about Philip and Peculiar Lives on his website www.infinitarian.com. ABOUT THE READER: John Leeson starred in over 60 episodes of classic Doctor Who as mechanical hound K9. He has since returned to the role in several audio adventures as well as the new series of Doctor Who alongside David Tennent and Elisabeth Sladen in School Reunion and Journey's End, with regular appearances in The Sarah-Jane Adventures and his very own spin off series.
