Private investigator Bruce Hardin begins a search for missing millionaire George Blakely and finds a complex bed of corruption and espionage in his giant Blakely Enterprises.

Along the way, Hardin encounters too many Mrs. George Blakelys, company executives selling weapons and U.S secrets to foreign governments for millions in gold, half a dozen murders and a vault filled with millions in cash.

His investigative journey ends with finding the killer hidden in a mansion basement and the missing George Blakely's body in a freezer.
