Manchester, England is the setting for the dark and twisted tale of "Black Chapel," a British crime thriller and psychological noir series that delves into the depths of human corruption and the blurred lines between justice and vengeance. At the center of this intricate web of deceit is DCI Edward Holloway, a brilliant but tormented detective whose own troubled past becomes inextricably linked to the sinister activities of a centuries-old secret society known as The Chapel.

When Holloway is called to investigate a gruesome murder in a local church, he discovers strange ritualistic markings on the victim's body and hidden documents referencing The Chapel. As he and his partner, DI Amir Qureshi, dig deeper, they uncover a pattern of similar killings dating back decades, all connected to a 1995 police cover-up. Holloway's investigation leads him to a series of suspicious church fires from that same period, each one occurring a week after a confessional session with an unnamed priest. The discovery of a partially burned confession document hints at the involvement of corrupt officers still on the force, and Holloway's superiors seem unusually eager to steer him away from this line of inquiry.
