Told from the perspective of Nick Aaron at the Psychiatrist's office, Nick is a graduate student lost about his place in the world until he meets Julia, a jazz singer on the brink of her career taking off. As their relationship grows, Nick breaks up with his partner for Julia. After her unexpected suicide, he reconnects with his former partner only to find that she is pregnant with another man's child and will stop at nothing to get Nick back.
