Honey clan, volume 3, photo album about bees by Simon Ladislau, December 2024.
Bees (Anthophila) are flying insects that feed on flower nectar and pollen, an activity that results in pollination flowers and, in some cases, with the production of honey and wax. The bees are the most important pollinating insects and the interdependence between them and plants make them an excellent example of a type of symbiosis known as "mutualism", an association between organisms different that is beneficial to both parties.
Bees are found on every continent except Antarctica, in every habitat on the planet that contains insect-pollinated flowering plants.
Bees feed on nectar and pollen, the former primarily as an energy source and the latter primarily for protein and other nutrients. Most pollen is used as food for their larvae. To grow awareness of the importance of pollinators, of threats faced and their contribution to sustainable development, UN designated May 20 as World Bee Day.
