One man's dream is another's curse.
Matthieu ached for a simple life. A home with food and the peace which he had never known as an orphan and knew even less as a soldier, but the cold winter leads to starvation, and as his friends and fellow soldiers die, Napoleon's promises seem empty. Unwilling to die as canon fodder, Matthieu goes rogue.
On the run, he takes shelter in a castle's ruins, but when he awakes to warmth and good food, the young soldier discovers there is more to the world than he had ever known. There is magic, and his guide is a beautiful spirit named Hauke who seems determined to scare Matthieu away.
Despite the spirit's warnings, the castle seems like a dream come true.
Mauke stood up against his king, the man he loved, and for his bravery, the king cursed him. Unmoored from his body, the wizard wanders the halls of his home as a spirit, watching adventurers die again and again as they ignore his warnings of the tree which consumes life or the stone curse of his body's slumbering tomb.
Just as he begins to lose all hope, a starving frost-bitten soldier arrives, passing out on his doorstep. It takes everything to bring him inside, working himself tirelessly to protect the man until he wakes, but in his desperation to save a mortal who unknowingly wandered into his curse, Hauke begins to hope again.
But with an impossible curse, can these two find a way to be together? Or is Matthieu doomed to be further fodder for the wizard's curse?
