The word "Bible" comes from the Greek word "biblia," which means "book." It is a collection or library of 66 books written by approximately 40 different human authors over a period of nearly 1500 years. The Bible is a revelation of the mind, will, character and being of an infinitely great, perfectly wise and absolutely Holy God. God Himself is the Author/ Architect of this revelation. It is sometimes called "The Scripture" or "Scriptures", from a Latin word "scriptura" meaning "the writing" or "scribere" meaning "to write." It is also called "The Holy Bible." The Bible is God's written Word to mankind; a gift from divinity to humanity. It is made up of two principal divisions; 39 books collectively called the Old Testament, and 27 books collectively called the New Testament. The word "testament" comes from Latin term "testamentum" meaning; "will", or "Covenant."
