With literary sensitivity and artistic flair, the author drew inspiration from the Kalila and Dumna stories, originally composed by the Indian sage Bidpai in the 4th century CE and translated into Arabic by Abdullah Ibn al-Muqaffaʿ in the 8th century. She selected a number of these tales and reimagined them in her own words, presenting them through vivid, illustrative scenes inspired by the historical art style of Persian miniatures. Adding a contemporary artistic touch, she also incorporated traditional techniques—such as dyeing paper with natural materials and adorning it with intricate decorations and gold leaf embellishments.
