On April 15, 2019, a significant fire broke out at Notre-Dame de Paris, a medieval Catholic cathedral in Paris, France. The blaze began around 6:30 pm local time and continued until the following morning, causing extensive damage to the cathedral's roof and spire.

In response to the disaster, French President Emmanuel Macron pledged to restore the cathedral within five years. Restoration efforts have been ongoing, with significant progress made in stabilizing and reconstructing the damaged structure.

As of December 2024, the restoration is more than halfway complete, with plans to reopen the cathedral to the public in the near future.

July 2024, another fire occurred at the historic Rouen Cathedral in France.

The blaze broke out in the spire, which was undergoing renovation at the time. Firefighters managed to control the fire, preventing extensive damage to the cathedral.
