A collection of long lost stories from the Pullein-Thompson sisters
Josephine Pullein-Thompson's Black Raven takes place when being accused of witchcraft could go very badly for you. That's not the only theme in this story - there's a family with very set ideas on what its daughters should do and how they should behave, and it's through Black Raven Cathy is able to marry the man she loves.
Diana Pullein-Thompson's Black Piper is a much more traditional Black Beauty type story. Black Piper is born in Ireland, but when the potato famines strike, he has to be sold. This story is an excellent picture of a horse's life pulling coaches. If you like to learn about the way things were for horses, this is a story for you.
Christine Pullein-Thompson's The Challenge is a short story which could be where Christine tried out the idea for what became The Impossible Horse.
Christine Pullein-Thompson's The Chill Valley Point-to-Point. Christine wrote three books about the Chill Valley Hunt, and this is the fourth. There is some hunting content but the story focuses mainly on the point-to-point. It's incredibly hard to find unless you book a read at the British Library.
Note: Hunting was legal when these books were written and set, and although it's not the main subject, it does occur.
