Something evil has awoken.

Someone is dead, and the crime scene tells the police less than desired and raises more questions than answers. Was she just an unfortunate murder victim, or the victim of something more calculating? The death of Celestina Quintin becomes the focal point for more than the police. Her father, a titan of Mexico City real estate, joins the investigation as does her younger brother. As the police investigation begins, so do other investigations, including one by the Bishop of the Yucatan.

Thus begins the story not so much of the murder as much as what is about to happen. They are creatures, hungry creatures seeking sustenance. Sustenance in the form of young women and children.

A war has begun, and the first battle is situated right smack dab in the middle of the Yucatan, Mexico.
