In the final confrontation, Elias enters the interstice and sacrifices himself to free Thomas, destroying the watch to prevent its dangerous power from being exploited by government agents. As Thomas returns to normal time, Elias's consciousness dissolves across the temporal spectrum, finding peace in the knowledge that his sacrifice restored his son's life and ended the watch's deadly cycle.
