Minh discovers her deceased husband Daniel's watch in the sand, the first sign that reality is fracturing. Guided by Tamir, a nomadic elder with ancient knowledge of these cyclical tears occurring every forty years, Minh confronts both scientific and personal mysteries as the phenomenon expands globally. When a future version of Daniel appears, he provides Minh with a modified quantum device that can properly close the tear. The military plans to deploy "Operation Cauterize," but Daniel warns this will only fragment reality further, causing decades of suffering.
