This book describes Humerus Neck Fracture,
(As narrated by A Patient),
Diagnosis and Treatment and Related Diseases which is seen in some of my patients in my Family Clinic
Humerus neck fracture
(Based on a real account from a 76 years old patient who had a humerus neck fracture in 2024)
Day 1
On this unlucky day I fell forwards down 3 flights of stairs to the road.
I hit my left shoulder and left cheek and forearm and knees.
There was an immediate reaction pain in my left shoulder.
I was unable to use my left arm to lift up my body from the road.
Luckily a stranger helped to lift up my body from the ground.
I was slightly shocked but not unconscious.
I thanked the stranger and went home with my wife who came with a car.
At my house I saw deformity in the left shoulder and was worried about a dislocation of shoulder
I was unable o move my left arm.
There were abrasions and lacerations of left cheek, right and left hands, right and left knee and left shoulder.
There was also a large bruise on left mid-back area.
I probably fell on my left shoulder and left back and landed on my left cheek and outstretched arms.
I felt pain in my shoulder and took a tablet of painkiller.
I called the ambulance which arrived 15 minutes later.
The Para medics bandaged up my wounds and sent me to the nearest public hospital
I was wheeled into the emergency department.
Doctors examined me for head injury and hip and spine injury.
The main problem is deformity of my left shoulder.
I was sent for an X-ray of the left shoulder and found to have a comminuted fracture neck of humerus and possible dislocation of the shoulder.
I was sedated for a deeper X-rays for reduction of possible dislocation.
No dislocation of the shoulder was found so bandaging of wounds was done and an arm-sling was provided to support the left shoulder (immobilization of shoulder)
I was allowed to go home after the doctors found no evidence of head injury or loss of balance.
All nurses and doctors were very helpful.
I returned home with my wife and daughters after collection of medicines for pain.
I had difficulty in sleeping due to pain that night.
This is the start of my patient's difficulty and lengthy journey through his encounter with a humerus neck fracture and treatment until the present day.
Recovery from a fractured bone in the human body is never easy especially in a old person.
It may take 6 months or even several years for aged bones to recover.
