Fenrir-2 was an angry planet. Volcanic, inhospitable, and with an atmosphere designed to kill just about anything that liked to breathe. The violence and misery hid a treasure worth billions: rare earth metals at risk of being consumed and destroyed by the very chaos that spawned them.
What better place for a series of subterranean mines in the semi-stable regions on the planet? Those were all gone now, all except for one on the largest landmass. Even it had stopped being profitable for some time, which is why the company that owned it turned it into a different revenue stream: A prison so bleak and remote that being sent here was a death sentence.
The inmates fell between the cracks of the normal penal system. They weren't even the worst of the worst, in most cases. No, the secrecy and seclusion of these inmates mattered a great deal to someone or other. Someone with deep pockets. Someone that intended they never, ever, be heard from again.
When the planet itself may not be enough to do the job it turns out there are more ways than one to fulfill a prophecy.
