Eighteen hundred years ago, the merchant's son Kovalan, his wife Kannaki and his lover Madhavi lived in the city of Pushpahara in the Cholamandales. The rise and fall of their relationship primarily takes as its basis the traditional conflict between imagination and reality, dreams and awakening, individual and collective life, and the eternal search for the path of man through that conflict.

This novel, while following the narrative line of the Tamil epic 'Shilappadikaram', seeks to reflect our time in the mirror of the past. Like Kovalan, Kannaki and Kavundi, we in the modern era have also journeyed towards the city of Madurai, a city of some hopeful conviction, through the inaccessible forest path of this conflict-filled life. Even though our dreams have burned to ashes upon reaching there, we have awakened like a phoenix bird on the banks of the beloved Kaveri. In this specific sense, the 'Whispers of the Anklet' is actually the heartbeat of the present in the body of the present.

Retelling of a classic Tamil epic: The novel is based on the "Shilappadikaram," a significant and ancient Tamil epic, offering a new perspective to a story that may be unfamiliar to many readers.

Exploration of universal human experiences: The novel delves into timeless themes such as love, betrayal, conflict, and the search for meaning, making it relevant to readers across different times and cultures.

Strong female characters: The epic features compelling female characters like Kannaki, whose strength and agency are central to the narrative.

Blend of history and fiction: The novel combines historical elements with fictional storytelling, providing insights into the social, political, and cultural context of ancient South India.
