When at Columbia University and the Jewish Theological Seminary, located in New York City, I had many opportunities to travel on the New York Subway system. Some of my fondest memories when underground was being entertained by a variety of musicians who played and sang songs. It made traveling so much more fun. These days there is an official visual and performing arts program where more than 350 individual performers and ensembles participate in thousands of performances in a variety of locations throughout the MTA's transit system. The Platform Band is a story that illustrates the camaraderie that often occurs when one musician encounters another one.
