The California Gold Rush and Communist Manifesto happened within the same month, January through February of 1848. German newspaper editor Karl Marx learns of the gold strike by October of the year, and within the month has begun his journey toward the Golden Hills of California, there to make a pile and, in the offing, kick over the bourgeoisie with a little help from his erstwhile pal Friedrich Engels in London.
