It is a dark fantasy tale set in a world where the dead are not buried in graves, but instead, their souls are contained within glowing lanterns that hang above their resting places. The story follows Jonas, a gravekeeper tasked with maintaining the lanterns of the deceased and ensuring their souls remain bound to their resting places.
However, when he hears rumors of a forbidden crypt and the legendary Bone Lantern, a powerful artifact that has been sealed away for centuries, Jonas succumbs to temptation. Driven by greed and the promise of wealth, he breaks the sacred laws and seeks the lantern, hoping to sell it to black-market traders.
Upon opening the crypt, he unleashes a terrifying spirit imprisoned within the Bone Lantern, a malevolent force older than time itself. As the spirit takes hold of Jonas's body, he becomes a vessel for its power, and the graveyard begins to fall into chaos, with the lanterns flickering and the souls of the dead vanishing.
In a desperate bid to regain control, Jonas battles the entity controlling him, but the spirit proves stronger than anything he could have anticipated. With the arrival of Lanora, a high priestess of the Lantern Keepers, Jonas is given a chance to free himself, and the dark force is temporarily banished. However, the price of his actions is steep—many souls have been lost, and Jonas is now marked as the new keeper of the graveyard, forever bound to protect the dead from the same fate that nearly consumed him.
"The Bone Lantern" is a tale of greed, redemption, and the eternal battle between light and darkness. As Jonas takes up his new mantle, he realizes that the true threat is not gone—it is simply waiting for the right moment to rise again.
