This is a true story that promotes respect and tolerance. Two children and their mother, new to the neighborhood, discover the kindness and courage of an eccentric neighbor.

They befriend Noelie Houle, an elderly French-Canadian immigrant who raises goats for the healing properties of their milk. Her other neighbors bemoan the "Goat Lady's" rundown house and barnyard animals, but the children see how she cares for her goats; they hear her stories and come to love her. The children's mother paints a series of portraits of the "Goat Lady" that are exhibited at the Town hall. Her art show helps the rest of the community see Noelie differently.

The story is illustrated with her fine paintings and compositions, and the muted colors of the artist's palette are a perfect match for the reminiscent spirit of the paintings, capturing the personality and expression of the "Goat Lady."

For many years, Noelie Houle has provided goat's milk for people who need it and has sent her extra goat kids to poor people in poor countries through the Heifer Project International.

Enhanced ebook edition includes a bonus video of Noelie on her farm at the end. Best viewed on Apple devices.
