Poetry from Ireland's 'Anti-Austerity Movement' years (2008 - 2016).
(Originally released in 2016.)
This book of poems and observations is inspired by the needless hardships endured by Ireland's low earners, unemployed, and dispossessed, after the collapse of the Irish Banking System in 2008, and during the years of the subsequent 'Troika Bailout'. It looks at the social, political and economic impact of forced austerity, as well as the legacies of poor governance, on the people of a nation.
One of the mantras used by citizens and protesters during this period in Irish history was, 'Austerity only affects the poor.' As we are now fully aware, no truer words were ever spoken.
