One afternoon, while walking along the village road, Rahim Ali noticed an old leather bag lying by the roadside. Curious, he picked it up and opened it—his eyes widened in shock. The bag was full of money! He had never seen such an amount in his life.
Without hesitation, he decided to return it to its rightful owner. He went straight to the village market and announced,
"Brothers, I have found a bag full of money. Whoever has lost it should come forward with proof, and I will return it."
The news spread like wildfire.
Greedy Sons Return
Karim and Salim, who had not visited their father for years, rushed to his house as soon as they heard about the money. Suddenly, the father they had ignored for so long became important. Their wives accompanied them, eager to see the fortune for themselves.
Karim entered first, his voice filled with false concern.
"Father! We heard you found a bag of money! How will you keep it safe?"
Salim chimed in, his tone sickly sweet,
"Yes, Father! We are so worried about you! Have you secured the money properly?"
Even their wives played their roles. One brought fruit for Rahim Ali, while the other touched his feet in reverence. Rahim Ali, however, understood their intentions. With a calm demeanor, he asked,
"Tell me, my sons, after all these years, why have you suddenly remembered me? Is it love for your father, or greed for the money?"
Karim forced a laugh and replied,
"Oh, Father! What are you saying? We always care for you!"
Salim quickly added,
"Yes, Father! We will never leave you alone now. You should stay with us!"
By now, the villagers had gathered. They murmured among themselves,
"They ignored their father for years, and now they suddenly care?"
"Greed truly blinds a man."
Rahim Ali's Decision
Rahim Ali sighed deeply. Then, in a firm voice, he declared,
"This money is not mine, nor is it yours. I will find its rightful owner and return it. As for my well-being, I have my fellow villagers. They are my true family."
Hearing this, Karim and Salim froze. Their faces turned pale as they realized their last hope had been crushed.
The villagers now saw the true character of Rahim Ali's sons. Meanwhile, Rahim Ali, with his unwavering honesty, had once again won the hearts of the people.
